Courtlands Residents Association Newsletter May 2012

AGM The Annual General Meeting of the Association was held in Homefarm Sports Hall on 25 April 2012. The attendance at the meeting was low this year and the terrible weather on the night did not help.

The committee for the next year are:

Chairman: John Ryan, Secretary: Margaret O’Leary, Treasurer: Jim O’ Connor, Committee members: Aislinn Daly, Pamela McCarthy, Paddy Kane, Fionan O’Connell, Jim Kenny, Paddy Mc Donald, John O Reilly and Brendan Fallon.

Paddy Kane has stepped down as Chairman but remains on the committee. We would like to take this opportunity to thank Paddy for all his work as Chairman since 2006.

We urgently need new committee members as some long serving committee members have resigned. If you can spare just a little time to help could you please contact any of the committee above.

 

Clean Up Day The annual clean up day will be held on Saturday May 26th from 10 AM. Volunteers are needed to work on the common areas not fully covered by our maintenance contractor. Please come along to the Park at 10am. A plan is in place to edge the borders of the playing area in the Park, and also at the Poplars, and we need enough volunteers to carry this out. On the day all residents are asked to sweep outside their own houses and give their front gardens a Spring tidy up if not already done. The clean up day will make our estate more attractive for everyone.

Courtlands is our home, show your pride in it by taking part in this annual event. A skip, for clean up day items only, will be provided at the pedestrian entrance for the day to help tidy up. Tom Kellegher will co-ordinate the clean up day and if you have any queries you can contact him on 087 2513585.

We encourage all residents to try and help on the day as it makes it easier to keep our award winning estate looking good and the more people that help the quicker we will get things looking better. An inspection for the Tidy Districts Competition will take place on two random occasions during the summer and we need to keep the estate as tidy as possible to try for another prize this year.

We would like to thank Dublin City Council and Parks Department for all their help and all the Courtlands volunteers for all their work during the year.

 

Annual subscriptions The annual subscription has been held at 35 Euro per house. The estate needs all subscriptions paid in order to maintain the estate to a high standard for the enjoyment of all residents. Can you please help by paying your subscription promptly as collection is not an easy task and is done on a voluntary basis by the committee.

 

Garda Station The Whitehall Garda Station at the corner of Griffith Avenue closed on 29th April 2012.

Representatives of the residents committee attended a Garda presentation in the Regency Hotel at which plans for the switch of servicing our area to the Santry Garda station were outlined. We were assured that there would be no deterioration in the service delivered to our area as a result of this change. The same number of Garda and cars are assigned to our area and the same Community Garda are covering our area, including supporting our neighbourhood watch programme. The situation is being monitored closely after the switch to ensure the service is maintained to the same standard.

The Sergeant in charge our Neighbourhood watch Programme is Sergeant Brian Nolan and Laura Sheridan and Martin Lynch are our community Garda. If you are unable contact these Garda, as they are out on patrol, you should ask to have your issue recorded in the “message book” as this is monitored by the team. All incidents and suspicious behaviour should be reported and the registration of suspicious vehicles going round the estate should be phoned in. You do not have to give your name to report suspicious issues so there is no need to be afraid to report these.

If there are any ongoing concerns which you feel are not be dealt with by the Garda please inform one of the committee and we will take this up with the Neighbourhood Watch Garda Team.

The phone number for Santry Station is 6664000 and this should be used from now on in addition to the 999 number.

 

Community Fun Day The 2012 Fun Day will take place (weather permitting!) on Saturday 16th June. Please put the date in your diary and come along and support the committee!

 

Courtlands Cycle A fundraising fun cycle is being proposed by the committee to raise funds for the Funday and to contribute to the ongoing costs within the estate. With enough interest the cycle will take place on Saturday 9th June travelling from Courtlands to Malahide/Howth and back. To take part will cost €20 per head and for safety is only open to adults. It is a fun way of getting to know people, exercising & raising funds for your own area. Anyone interested please email courtlandsresidentsassociation@gmail.com or contact any member of the committee.

 

Dog Fouling Dog fouling is still an issue particularly in the park and we ask any resident who notices anybody not cleaning up after their dog to report it to the Dept.of the Environment on 2224640. This is the only way to resolve this ongoing issue.
